Finn Kyngdon’s kiteboarding journey started at just 10 years old during a family camping trip, and from that moment, he was hooked. Growing up surrounded by family and friends who kite, the ocean which he loves, plus living in the consistently windy conditions of Western Australia, it was only a matter of time before he picked up the sport himself.
Freestyle is Finn’s main focus right now—he loves the technical challenge of unhooking and pushing his tricks to the next level. But when the wind picks up and the waves get big, he’s just as happy wave riding in the surf. His ideal conditions? Medium wind for freestyle (as long as it’s not too light!) and strong winds with solid swell for strapless wave riding.
Despite having only a few years in the sport, Finn has already made an impact on the competition scene. He’s earned podium finishes at State, National, and International levels, with highlights including 3rd place in the World Cup Strapless Freestyle U14, 3rd in the U18 National Freestyle, and 1st in the State Waves U14.
Finn has been riding Duotone gear from the very beginning, long before joining the WA SURF family. His go-to setup includes the Vegas and Jaime for freestyle, the Rebel and Slash for strapless, and the Neo and Slash for waves. With freestyle making a comeback—especially in the junior divisions—he’s excited to be part of the next generation pushing the sport forward.
